Gadget Addiction: Cell phones

I just purchased one of those family plans from Cingular wireless.
Been wanting to get a cell phone for myself for a long time, but it wasn't until it becase a "business" expense that i could justify getting one.

They're so useful for staying in contact, so it's pretty much a must if you own or work for a business that requires your undivided attention.
Unfortunaely for the rest of us on the road this also means they just HAVE to talk on it while driving a car that they're probably barely licensed to drive anyhow.

One thing i have noticed now that i'm with the "L33t C3LL" crowd, having one of these things is kind of like buying a brand new toy with the 5 dollar bill you got in a birthday card. You really gotta have it, once you get it you marvel at it's beauty and play with it nonstop for 3 fricking days, but then you start to feel that you spent too much and promptly forget about it until you see another one just like it but "better"!!
(luckily i'm still in the "oooooh, pretty lights" stage of this process so i'm still good for another month or so when I get buyer's remorse, or decide i want a fricking camera on the phone.)

On top of this, having one gives you one of those warm fuzzy feelings that people get with collectible card games:

"Hey dude!!! you have a cell phone too?!!! What model?!"
"Oh it's model X, and i got it for this much but it's less as good as model Y!"
":Really?! I always wanted a model Z"
"Yeah Z is good"

"Well dude, my number is ###-###-####!"
*rapid beeping progresses*

"Okay got it! mine is ###-###-####!"
*another series of beeping noises progresses*

*lots more beeping happens as both parties involved suddenly get sidetracked while they play with their ringers and tones*

Now, the funniest part that i think i've noticed about these things is the fact that though you get free nights and weekends (and if you don't you should switch providers), you rarely get the urge to call anyone until you are in a moment when you have to use up your minutes (the joy).
So here you are feeling all proud that you can call anyone unlimited from 9pm-6am on any night of the week, and the ENTIRE weekend, yet on monday you just have the friggin urge to try to call someone. Aye, the cellphone companies HAD to have done some kind of study for this, it's just too freaky.

Well either way, i'm hooked in for another 2 years, so i guess i'll get used to it.
