Of Geometry and an odd occurance

That odd occurance being me actually WANTING To remember Geometry!

I was helping a friend the other day with her geometry studies for her grad-entry-thingamawhatsis, and i realized just how damn much i missed doing complex math.

Quite honestly it was almost like one of those eureka moments and was VERY surprising considering that i really didn't like Geometry at all when i was taking it in high school.
(being 1 of 2 freshmen inside of a class full of juniors and seniors was not my idea of a fun time back then....)

Mental note:
Whenever doing fractions, always make sure that the first fraction doesn't cause the second to become a negative. In this case it's one of those really unusual rules in which you can do subtraction before addition.

The Problem:

(1/16) - (3/4) + 1(7/8)
(basically one-sixteenth minus three-fourths plus one seven-eights)

The first step is to simplify the problem by getting rid of the mixed number.
This can be done by multiplying the whole number by the denominator (lower half) and then adding it to the numerator (higher half).

This would be ((1)(8) + 7)/8 = 15/8

This leaves us with:
(1/16) - (3/4) + (15/8)

so now that we have everything as a fraction, we can move onto the lowest common multiple. (in order to make sure that all of them can be easily added/subtracted).

In this case the lowest common multiple for the denominators (remember the denominator is the second half) would be "16".

In order to set this up we get the following:
(1/16)(1/1) - (3/4)(4/4) + (15/8)(2/2)

This leaves us with:
(1/16) - (12/16) + (30/16)

Now we move onto the "trick" part. In normal mathmatical sequence addition is done before subtraction.
HOWEVER, one thing that i did not remember (And i was tearing out my hair thinking about it), is that this rule doesn't apply to the VERY FIRST STEP if a number will return NEGATIVE.
(In a case like this we would make the number negative first, then continue on normally.)

The wrong answer would have been 41/16.
This is only obtained if you do the addition first and the subtraction last.

the CORRECT answer is actually 19/16.

solution:
(1/16) - (12/16) + (30/16)
- (11/16) + (30/16)
= 19/16

When i kept doing this in my head i just couldn't figure out why the decimals would always end up to the equivalency of 19/16.......stupid me eh?

It wasn't until siobhan said something after i kept saying "that's weird...it keeps ending up negative.....", that i finally understood what the hell my mind kept wrapping itself around.

Doy!

About remembering old friends at 2 in the mornin...

So i was looking around in Myspace.com some more.

As Nic has said in the past, it does leave something to be desired at times, but it's quite interesting in the simple fact that a freaking TON of my old friends are apparently members.

It's actually pretty neat to see some of your old crushes and buddies as they are now.
I'm still working myself up to posting a photo, but in all honesty all of the pictures i have are usually of when i'm drunk. (and most of those are NOT very public safe of course).

Well as it be...i think i need to see if i can spruce up my online homestead over there...looks like i'm going to be reviewing CSS a little more.

Monologue: Screw the world! I'm sleeping!

So this morning i woke up to the cold glow of light reflecting off of the ceiling fan from the window behind my bed's headboard.

It was then that i had this sudden urge to develop one of those corny monologues where you argue with yourself.
I sat there for a minute thinking, "Screw the world! What has it done for me besides thrown grief and turmoil at me?!"

For the next 15 minutes I heard at least 7 different variations in my head of what i should and shouldn't do for the next step in my day.
Quite honestly it was like listening to 6 different people with voices that sound oddly the same, telling me to do henious crimes, interesting pasttimes and some stuff that was just......well......some really F-ed up stuff.

Luckily the last one got the crap beat out of him by the rest. (unless all of that scuffling and yelling was something else...*shrug*)

After all this I let my motor functions take over. I sat up and just kind of 'puddled' there on the edge of it for about 10 more seconds just....staring. (Puddling being defined as a state in which you're really not feeling very solid and can't do much more than just sit up and try not to fall over).

I then had one of those really long ass moments where you feel like complete crap and can't do anything but sit there, feel the weight of gravity and realized you've been starring at something for the past 10 seconds.

Definition of Morale:
The state of the spirits of a person or group as exhibited by confidence, cheerfulness, discipline, and willingness to perform assigned tasks.

Looks like i scored about 5 strikes this morning.

Stuff it and Duff it......

I just placed an ad in a local "stuff it and duff it" classified paper called "The PennySaver".
(In other places it could be anything from "The Analizer" to "The Procrastinator", but here it's called "The PennySaver".)

Yesterday i contacted the PennySaver office to confirm that my ad would be running correctly.
The nice lady on the other side of the phone told me something that i found oddly ironic.

"Well you're going to find out tomorrow because our computers are down until tomorrow morning when a tech can come out to fix it."

The nice lady and I shared a good laugh for a moment after i explained to her why i had dropped the phone when she told me this.

It's kind of hard to hold onto it when you're laughing at the irony of life. I mean literally speaking here, I'm calling about my ad and the ad agency is telling me that it can't check my ad for computer services because the computer is broken......and a computer services guy has to fix it.

(I probably would have offered to come fix it, but i didn't have any time left in the day...doh!)

This morning i snagged a PennySaver's on the way out to work and discovered that my ad had three things going against it:
1.) It wasn't in the "Computer Services area", it was in "Computer sales".
2.) It looked tiny and squashed in between 5 different graphic advertisements offering sales and repairs (quite attractively too!).
3.) They put "at" instead of "@" on support@techweaver.net.

On the flip side of this:
1.) The Ad doesn't start with "Is your computer Broken?" or "I fix computers!"
2.) At least it's not in the "looking for work" section.
3.) The phone number is right at least.......

Before i was worried about too much work, now i'm worried about not enough.

You know what i've come to a conclusion on?

I worry too freaking much............
